Today, The Chinese government has officially approved the project to build two plants of the Volkswagen Group in the cities of Foshan and Yizheng. Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, chairman of Volkswagen, has signed the final approval for the project with Presidents of the Chinese partner companies in Berlin.
The plant in Yizheng will be developed in partnership with Shangai Volkswagen, while the plant in Foshan, in southern China, in collaboration with the FAW-VW joint venture. Each plant will have annual capacity of about 300,000 cars and the assembly is expected to launch in 2013.
"China is already the world's largest sales market for automobiles and further substantial growth is expected in the future," said Winterkorn.
Volkswagen Group hopes to benefit from strong growth of the Chinese market by investing €10.6 billion between now and 2015. Not just for the new plants, Volkswagen also attempted to increase its capacity from 300,000 to 350,000 cars per year for the assembly line in Nanjing and Chengdu, China.
