Mazda has announced that they are planning to build a new plant in Mexico, with investment of up to $ 500 million to strengthen the company's presence in Latin America.
The plant will soon be built in Salamanca and is expected to be completed in 2013. The new plant will produce the Mazda2 and Mazda3 with a capacity of 140,000 vehicles and engines when it went into operation at full capacity.
Mexican officials have welcomed this project. Meanwhile, Mazda said, the project would create 3,000 new jobs. Speaking at a meeting with Mazda, Mexican President Felipe Calderon said: "This new investment by Mazda in Mexico is the right direction."
Mexico's auto industry has developed rapidly over the past two years. The foreign carmakers have built several plants in this country and export the vehicles produced here in the world. In 2010, Mexico has produced 2.3 million vehicles and nearly 2 million of these were exported.
