According to Volkswagen, the engine is not an upgraded version of the standard GTI. Instead, this is a detuned version of the AWD Golf R's four-pot. With 25 more horsepower than the standard GTI and a power/weight ratio of 6 kg/hp, the Golf GTI Edition 35 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds before reaching a top speed of 247 km/h.
Like the standard GTI, the Edition 35 is equipped with the XDS electronic differential lock for improved handling and the optional 6-speed DSG gearbox. The average fuel consumption is rated at 8.1-liter/100 km for the manual version and 8-liter/100 km for the DSG version. In the German market, the Edition 35 has a starting price of €30,425 ($43,750).
