The A3 e-tron is not an all-electric model. Instead, it is a plug-in hybrid and is based on Audi A3 sedan concept that was recently introduced at the Geneva Auto Show.
The car uses 1.4-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine coupled to direct fuel injection system, capacity of 211 hp, and an electric motor with a capacity of 27 hp (20 kW) - total capacity of 238 hp. Transmission is the S tronic 7-speed.
Audi said, with the gasoline engine and electric motor, the car accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and can reach top speed of 231 km/h.
On electric power alone, the A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid has a range of up to 54 km with the 12 kWh lithium-ion batteries located behind the rear seats providing the juice.
This plug-in hyrid A3 e-tron actually looks quite production-ready and features a chassis derived from the current RS 3 Sportback along with a performance suspension and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Previously, Audi has unveiled a sports car is equipped with plug-in hybrid such as the 2009 e-tron Coupe Concept, the 2010 A1 e-tron, and recently the e-tron Spyder.
