Mazda RX-9 Will Use Toyota Hybrid System

In 2010, Toyota and Mazda have signed an agreement on hybrid technology. Accordingly, Mazda will have the right to use Toyota's hybrid technology. At the time of signing the agreement, Mazda said that its first hybrid using Toyota technology would hit the market in 2013. Until now, many people believe that is the Mazda RX-9.

According to Motor Trend, the RX-9 will share a platform with the next MX-5. The car will eschew reverse-opening rear doors for a standard coupe format. If true, we may be talking about the world's first rear-wheel-drive hybrid sportscar for the mass market.

It's worth noting that a hybrid drive system is the solution for the two disadvantages of the rotary engine: low torque and high fuel consumption. Only thing, Toyota's hybrid technology comes with a complicated continuously variable automatic transmission, it will eliminate the excitement feeling driving of a manual gearbox or dual-clutch.

"Smaller, lighter, cleaner, more fuel-efficient, and more fun to drive. That's where we want to take the next rotary car," says the Mazda employee.
