BMW has released three official images of the 2012 M3 DTM Concept. The concept is set to do battle with two rivals in the luxury car segment: Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

According to Dr. Klaus Draeger, member of the board of management for BMW "We will be facing our main competitors in the premium sector – and are already looking forward to this challenge. The DTM comeback sees BMW return to its roots. We have enjoyed great success in production car racing in the past, and I am convinced we will follow on in 2012 where we left off."

During the reveal ceremony, BMW Motorsport drivers Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus were also introduced.

On display over the weekend at BMW Welt in Munich, the BMW M3 DTM Concept is equipped by an V8 engine built to the series' rules and generating about 480 hp. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds and reached a top speed of 300 km/h.
